Denver, Colorado (June 26, 2017). Austin-based Drone Dispatch announced today that it has successfully tested a drone that delivered a box of LaMar’s Donuts to the mayor of Denver.
On June 2nd, 2017, a drone was flown by Drone Dispatch to pick up a box of donuts at LaMar’s Donuts on 6th Avenue and delivered it to the Denver City-County Building where Denver Mayor Michael Hancock was waiting with volunteers from the Salvation Army.
The delivery by autonomous drone was a demonstration of technology that both big and small companies can benefit from. In the near future, merchandise, food, medicine, and more can be safely dropped at customers’ doorsteps.
The donuts were delivered as part of a week of celebrating a tradition that dates to 1917 during the World War I where Salvation Army volunteers made donuts for soldiers on the front lines. National Donut Day is celebrated on the first Friday of every June.
Denver Mayor Michael Hancock said, “This is an exciting development and I think as we get ready for not only drones in the air, and get ready for autonomous vehicles, this is our future, this is how we’re going to become a more efficient 21st century nation, the society quite frankly.”
Drone Dispatch is aiming to make last-mile delivery more efficient and this is a giant leap towards a future where everyone can experience the convenience of on-demand B2B and B2C drone delivery.
Drone Dispatch spokesperson said “This achievement is different from everything that has been done with drones so far. It has implications for future deliveries, especially in rural locations where company’s staffs often have to travel miles to make a single delivery. Sending a drone to make just one of those deliveries can reduce costly miles driven. This is a big step toward bolstering efficiency in their services.”
